Orpington man misses first Charlton game in 33 years for son’s wedding

PUBLISHED: 15:18 14 August 2013 | UPDATED: 15:18 14 August 2013

For the last 33 years nothing has come between Keith Hollands and his love of Charlton Athletic.

But on Saturday, season ticket holder Keith, from Orpington, had his devotion put to the test – and found it came off worse – when son Chris got married on the same day as the Addicks’ first home game of the season.

Keith’s 33-year record of attending every home match was brought to an end by the wedding.

It was supposed to take place the week before but had to be moved to August 10, the start of the football season, after the venue was double-booked.

Keith said: “The clash was unfortunate but you’ve got to be at your son’s wedding. Anyway, you care about your team winning and they lost 1-0 to Middlesbrough – if they’d won 4-0 I’d have been more upset!”
