The £10 million development in Walnuts Shopping Centre

Demolition of a former Orpington job centre is underway as work begins on a new seven-screen cinema at The Walnuts shopping centre.

The building, based in The Walnuts, will make way for the £10million development that also includes plans for three restaurants and four retail units.

Walnut Square is also to be upgraded as as part of the scheme that should see around 130 new jobs in the area.

Mark Hewett, director of project developers Miller, said: “We believe that the development, through the combination of providing a new leiscure core to the town and modern retail units, will lead to increased acitivity at The Walnuts.”

The development is scheduled to be completed early next year, with occupants of the new restaurant and retail units to be announced in the coming weeks.
