German shepherd Gunner works with Pets As Therapy

A dog from Orpington will be appearing at Crufts after being nominated for a national award.

German shepherd Gunner is one of six finalists in the HiLife Pets As Therapy Dog of the Year competition.

Three year-old Gunner and his owner, Lois Hyett, regularly volunteer their time to provide therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes and schools.

The winner of the competition on March 6 will receive a cheque for £500 and three months’ supply of HiLife dog food.

Lois said: “Lots of people have been wishing us luck and none of them appear surprised that Gunner has made the final. He’s such a special boy and deserves the recognition.”

Pets As Therapy is a charity with more than 5,000 volunteers. For more information visit
