He was disturbed and ran off, abandoning his stolen item

A cyclist has been reunited with his stolen bike after the thief who took it tried to use it in another burglary the following day.

The criminal fled, abandoning the bike in an alleyway, after being disturbed as he tried to burgle a property in Brookmead Way, St Mary Cray, on March 20.

But his loss was owner Mike Saxton’s gain as police were able to give him back his bike, which had been stolen from Court Road, Orpington, the day before.

It took officers almost a month to track the 47-year-old down but he was eventually reunited with his bike last week.

PCSO Lauren Revell said: “Mr Saxton was delighted.

“We encourage people to property mark their bikes to increase the chances of them being returned should they be lost or stolen.”
