A SPORTS centre will host a special day of events to mark the official Olympic handover this Sunday.

As London becomes the official Olympic Games host city, Crystal Palace National Sports Centre will host a range of events to celebrate the handover.

At 2.30pm, the iconic London Olympic Handover Flag will be raised above the stadium, starting the countdown to the London Games that open on July 27, 2012.

The day begins at 12pm and there will be a number of special guests including international athletes.

Members of the public will be able to try out a 100-metre flat out sprint on the home straight, compete in a 30-metre time trial and see the 1948 Olympic Torch from when London last hosted the Games.

There will also be a mini athletics competition and health checks from the Wellness Suite.
