HOSPITAL bosses are changing a work system in an attempt to become more efficient.

Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, introduced the new in-and-out scheme in the hope it will reduce delays and save money.

Last year, the hospital spent £17 million a year more than it earned, on top of the £100 million of debt it has accumulated over many years.

Now, patients arriving for surgery go straight to a new admissions lounge on surgical ward 4.

Meanwhile patients going home from both medicine and surgery will move to the new discharge lounge on surgical ward 8.

The waiting area for transport has also moved to the new discharge lounge rather than being sited on the ground floor behind the coffee shop.
