A MOTHER-OF-TWO has set up a magazine to help working mums.

Vicki Allan, 32, of Slades Drive, Chislehurst, is launching Mums In Control next month for women in Sidcup, where she was born and grew up.

The former BBC recruitment manager, who has two daughters, Amelie, three, and one-year-old Evie, said she wanted to find a way she could work at home so she could spend time with her children.

She said: "It is hard losing one wage. But being with my daughters is more important than the money.

"I am really interested in pushing women to be able to work from home. I found it too difficult to juggle going to work and looking after my children. I don't know how people do it."

The quarterly franchise magazine will be distributed free through schools, toddler groups, libraries and businesses in the area.

Mrs Allan, who is keen to get readers contributing to the magazine, said confidence is the key to juggling family and a career.

She said: "Each time I have had a child and gone back to work, I have thought 'how can I do this?' With some jobs you can't leave at 5pm and say 'see you tomorrow morning'. I wanted to be good at my job

"It is really difficult to know what to do for the best. I constantly felt guilty. I found it hard to get away from work. I had an important meeting and my daughter was ill. I was torn.

"You constantly feel you are not good enough at your job, even at a family-friendly organisation, like the BBC. I hated leaving.

"But now I am really excited about the magazine. I still want to be able to work.

"If we don't give stuff a go then we never know."
