A new £55,000 playground is set to open in St Mary Cray this month.

Sand and water play areas will be joined by an outdoor classroom and storytelling area, on the site in Riverside Gardens - which used to be a public paddling pool.

Children from Threshers Nursery, in Orpington High Street, and St Mary Cray Primary School, in St Mary Cray High Street, helped shape the design.

The project received £10,000 in funding from British Land, owners of the nearby Nugent Shopping Park.

Cllr Peter Fortune, chairman of the Cray Valley Initiative Panel, said: “This fabulous new play area demonstrates that when we work together, much can be achieved.

“Many residents are already on board with this and we are increasingly engaging with businesses. We are enormously grateful for this vote of confidence from Nugent Shopping Park and we look forward to continuing to develop this relationship with them.”
