A PRISON van driver accused of deliberately running over a woman dancing in the street has denied murder.

Andrew Curtis, 48, of The Ridge, Orpington, allegedly drove at Nyaraui Benjamin, 34, while escorting 11 prisoners through Brixton, on April 22 this year.

Ms Benjamin was trapped under the vehicle outside the Town Hall in Brixton Road and died at the scene from a broken neck.

The incident led to angry protests in the street from horrified witnesses.

Curtis, an employee of Serco Court Escort Services, appeared in the dock of the Old Bailey last Friday for a plea and case management hearing. He entered a not guilty plea to a single charge of murder.

Curtis was granted conditional bail until his three-week trial due to begin on April 27 next year.
