A Mottingham man has been jailed for three years after his mobile phone was found in a car abandoned following a police chase.

Ricky Woodford, 34, of Kingsley Wood Drive, pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods at Croydon Crown Court last month and was given 12 months on top of his two year sentence for breaching a previous suspended prison sentence for attempted burglary in December 2012.

On May 20, officers were alerted to a car chase close their location, in Mottingham.

The vehicle was found abandoned by police, and it was quickly established that the car had been stolen during a burglary, in Palace View, Bromley, a short while earlier.

A mobile phone found in the car belonging to Woodford led to his arrest two days later. He was charged with burglary.

Woodford denied the offence, but pled guilty to handling stolen goods prior to a jury being sworn in.
