Half of the ground floor was damaged

A mother managed to escape her home with her two children after a fire started in Beckenham last night.

The family managed to escape after a fire started in their home on Lennard Road.

Woodside Watch Manager Danny Kelly said: “The mother did exactly the right thing of getting out, staying out and dialling 999 which helped limit her and her children’s injuries.

“By closing doors behind her she also limited the damage to the ground floor, stopping it from spreading to the first floor.

Crews were called to the home at 6.50pm and the fire was under control by 7.32pm.

The mother and her children were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service crews.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
