A MOTHER and her three-year-old child were taken to hospital after escaping a fire in their flat. Three people managed to escape the first floor flat in Kingsgate Close, St Mary Cray, on Monday at approximately 7.40pm, before fire crews came.

Both the mother and child were taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

A quarter of their home was engulfed in the flames and fire crews from Orpington, Bromley and Sidcup stayed for approximately two and a half hours.

Police said they are not treating the fire as suspicious.
