More than 70 firefighters tackled a blaze at a Biggin Hill farm last night as overheating gas cylinders are thought to have caused minor explosions.

The fire brigade were called to the scene, in Highams Hill, at around 8.20pm and had the fire under control just before 1am this morning.

A large part of the single storey unit was damaged in the flames, but there were no injuries.

Crews from Biggin Hill, Addington, Croydon, Woodisde and surrounding fire stations took a total of 10 fire engines to the scene.

Firefighters remained on site this morning to dampen any remaining hotspots.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation by the Brigade’s Fire Investigation Unit and the Metropolitan Police.
