Minister goes back to school

A SCHOOLS Minister took a chemistry lesson from his old science teacher when he visited his former private school.

Jim Knight, Minister for Schools and Learners, went to Eltham College to see the final class in a private-state sector project, taught by his former teacher, Paul McCartney.

The private school has run a 'Serious Fun with Science' club in partnership with Darrick Wood School, Bromley, and a Croydon school which ended in March.

Eltham College headmaster Paul Henderson added: "We are discovering new ways of helping others while at the same time learning more about ourselves."

The Schools Minister, who attracted national media attention for the spelling on his blog, also visited Mottingham Primary School, where Eltham College Pupils held a singing workshop.

Eltham College students also act as maths mentors with peers at Haberdasher's Aske's Knight's Academy in Bromley.

The Haberdasher's Aske's Federation is due to open the primary part of its Crayford Academy this year, with the first admissions for secondary palces being taken later in 2009.
