ORGANISERS of a London to Brighton Mini rally hope a parade through an historic park will make it to the Guiness Book of Records.

This year, 1,600 Mini owners are thought to have joined the two-mile convoy through Crystal Palace Park to kick off the London to Brighton rally.

London and Surrey Mini Owners Club, who organise the annual event, reckon their event might break the world record for longest ever parade of Mini cars. The current amount of cars involved in the record breaking parade is 884.

This year's event, on May 17, celebrated the 50th anniversary on the Mini and included all day entertainment and camping as well as an open air screening of The Italian Job in the location it was filmed.

Approximately 2,100 Mini owners officially attended the event but it is thought that another 500 unofficial enthusiasts made it to the rally.

It was also was attended by Paddy Hopkirk and his Monte Carlo winning car '33EJB'. When the rally reached Brighton, the cars stretched two and a half miles across the seafront.
