Man remanded over teenage stabbing death

A 30-YEAR-OLD man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a teenager.  Labourer Steven Braithwaite, of no fixed address, appeared before Sutton magistrates on Thursday morning accused of stabbing to death 17-year-old Nilanthan Murddi.

Labourer Steven Braithwaite, of no fixed address, appeared before Sutton magistrates on Thursday morning accused of stabbing to death 17-year-old Nilanthan Murddi.

Mr Murddi died from a single knife wound to the neck after a fight broke out on Sumner Street, Croydon during the early hours of Saturday morning.

He was an A level student at Beckenham's Langley Park School for Girls mixed sixth form.

The case was adjourned until November 27 to be heard at the Old Bailey. Mr Murddi was the 23rd teenager to die violently in the capital this year.
