A man has been jailed for two and a half years after he was caught fleeing from a West Wickham burglary by Bromley Police.

Erkan Hassan, 26, of Tanners Hill, Deptford pleaded guilty to burglary at Croydon Crown Court on April 30.

His accomplice, James Avenall, 27, of Whitefoot Lane, Downham was sentenced to four months in jail, suspended for a year, after pleading guilty to the same charge at the same court on May 28.

Officers were called to Harvest Bank Road, in West Wickham, on January 11 at around 1.45pm. As they arrived, Hassan and Avenall dropped items they had been carrying, stolen from a nearby house, and ran away.

Avenall was caught by a PCSO after a short chase, with the subsequent investigation identifying Hassan as the second suspect. He was arrested in Ilford, east London, on March 11.
