A BODYBUILDER escaped jail after claiming that he found £5,000 worth of cocaine in a consignment of steroids from his supplier.

Jason Menshi, 24, of Blean Grove, Penge claimed he was surprised to find the cocaine in his anabolic steroids and escaped an immediate jail sentence at Croydon Crown Court last Tuesday.

When police raided his home in July 9, last year, they found the 112 grams of the Class A drug which turned out to be 45 per cent proof.

There was also £700 cash and a set of scales in the bedroom.

Menshi said he had bought the steroids and was surprised to find the cocaine in the

package.

When he realised what it was, he had intended returning it to the steroid dealer.

Mr Recorder Nicholson Saunders accepted the claim and, on that basis, decided against sending Menshi to immediate jail.

Instead, he gave him 12 months suspended for two years, but he will have to carry out 250 hours unpaid work.

The judge ordered the forfeiture of the cocaine and steroids but he let Menshi keep the £700 and the set

of scales.
