58 firefighters tackled the blaze for three hours


A man escaped from a house fire on Challock close, Biggin Hill on Sunday.

He had left the house before the fire brigade arrived and was taken to Princess Royal hospital by London Ambulance Service suffering from smoke inhalation.

The man is believed to be in his 50s.

The fire brigade was called at around 4.30pm and the fire was under control by around 5.30pm.

21 firefighters and officers attended the scene including engines from Addington and Orpington stations.

The house was badly damaged, but crews worked dilligently to make sure the fire didn’t spread to other properties.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
