A MAN who hit his sister's boyfriend and bit off part of his ear in a drink and drug-induced rage was jailed for two years. Daniel Manwaring of Copeman Court, Lawrie Park Road, Penge meted out his attack on Philip Wale at the Greyhound Hotel in Carshalton on March 15.
Pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm, he was jailed at Croydon Crown Court last Tuesday.
Prosecuting, Shekinah Anson said 30-year-old Manwaring had the idea that Wale had physically abused his sister.
He went after him at the hotel, punching and kicking him and biting half his ear off, leaving him in a pool of blood.
A bottle was used and the victim was taken to St.Helier Hospital, Carshalton, where it was found he had a blood clot and it was thought at first that he had brain damage.
Later, Manwaring went to Sutton police station and told an officer: "I have done wrong. I have to face the consequences."
Defending, Stefan Weidmann conceded that this had been a "frenzied and savage attack," adding: "This was despicable."
He had been drinking, brandy and wine, topped up with cocaine. Mr Weidmann added: "He had acted in the belief that his sister had been a recent victim of physical abuse. He is genuinely remorseful.
