VALENTINE'S Day was extra special for one lady this year after winning an engagement ring in a Times competition.
Susan Michael's partner of eight years, Paul Sparkes, of Hartshill Road, Northfleet entered our Star Romantic competition to tell us how wonderful the mother-of-two is.
His entry pulled at our heartstrings and last Thursday, Ms Michael picked her ring from generous jewellers F Hinds in the Walnuts, Orpington, who donated it to our competition.
She chose a beautiful 18carat white gold trilogy set diamond engagement ring, which represents the couple's past, present and future.
The nursery nurse of Arcus Road, Bromley, said: "When I found out from Paul I had won I was in shock, it was so unexpected. I couldn't believe it. It is such a special prize and I feel a million dollars. It is such a wonderful surprise and so nice of Paul to do.
"It means so much to me and my engagement ring will be cherished forever. Paul wants to whisk me off to Paris to propose.
"I would like to thank the Times, everybody at Walnuts and Debbie at F Hinds for all her advice and help with choosing my ring. Thank you for making my Valentine's Day."
In his letter, which won him the competition, Mr Sparkes, wrote: "The person I am writing to tell you about is the most kind and considerate, loving and understanding person that I could ever wish to meet.
"When I first met her she was the most beautiful, warm-hearted, happy-go-lucky mum of two lovely children. That's how I fell in love with her. That was eight years ago and I love her so much now that I couldn't be without her.
"Sue gives so much help to everyone around her and expects nothing in return. The reason why I am writing this is to let her know how much I feel for her and to let her know that I want to be with her for the rest of my life. My dream is to propose to her at the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and that she will say yes!"
The couple plan to marry in the next couple of years.
Manager at F Hinds, Debbie Cooney, said: "We are so happy that Susan has won this fabulous prize. Her engagement ring is perfect and we wish her and Paul a wonderful future together.
