Network Rail engineers have reopened a railway bridge which was clipped by a lorry earlier this morning (Monday).

The crash on Maidstone Road, between Borough Green and West Malling stations, was reported by a passer-by at 8.35am, causing Network Rail to halt trains using the bridge along the Maidstone East line.

A spokesperson from Network Rail said: “We reviewed CCTV footage of the bridge which revealed it was not badly damaged during the incident.

“We reopened the bridge at around 9am and trains are currently running slow past the scene.

“A bridge inspector will arrive on scene shortly and once the all-clear is given trains running along the line will return to normal speed.”

The line continues toward London Victoria via stations including Swanley, Bromley South and Beckenham Hill.
