London’s first leg ulcer club opens in Mottingham

London’s first-of-its kind club for people with leg ulcers was due to launch yesterday.

The Leg Club, in Court Farm Evangelical Church Hall, Mottingham, aims to “treat leg ulcers in a social environment” where the emphasis is on interaction.

It is based on an award-winning model founded by former district nurse Ellie Lindsay to empower patients to manage their own care.

Ellie opened her first Leg Club in Suffolk in 1995, which is now spreading worldwide. The first overseas Leg Club opens in Tasmania this month.

A leg ulcer is a wound on the leg or foot that takes more than six weeks to heal.

The club is open on Wednesdays from 2pm to 4pm and is free to attend and no appointments are necessary.
