A BURGLAR who threatened to slice off a man's toes with a machete was given a life sentence last Friday.

Martin Mitchell, 32, of London Road, Bromley kicked down the door the door to the Todd family home in Kent and put the blade to the throat of 26-year-old son Marvin.

He warned: "If you don't tell us where it is I'm going to chop his hand off, I'm going to chop his toes off."

An accomplice brandished a kitchen knife towards terrified mum Denise, while a third armed man kept guard on the stairs during the terrifying ordeal.

They eventually fled with two flat screen TVs, £800 cash emptied from a safe and a set of spare keys to a 52-plate BMW 5-series, which was stolen from the driveway two days later.

Judge Richard Hawkins passed an indefinite sentence for public protection and said Mitchell will have to serve a minimum of nine years before he is considered for parole.

He said: "You entered a family premises and held a machete against the neck of the occupier. This must have been a terrifying experience.
