Labourer set for murder trial

A LABOURER will stand trial for the murder of 17-year-old part time waiter.

Steven Braithwaite, 31, of no fixed abode, allegedly killed Nilanthan Murddi, in Sumner Street, Croydon on August 16 this year. He appeared at the Old Bailey last Thursday where a trial date of June 8 next year was set.

He was remanded in custody. Mr Murddi, a former pupil at Langley Park School for Girls mixed sixth form, in Hawksbrook Lane, Beckenham, died from a single knife wound to the neck.

A plea and case management hearing will take place on February 6.
