Teacher Jeremy Forrest is being divorced by his wife after he was sentenced to five and a half years in prison for child abduction last week.

Forrest, 30, of Chislehurst Road, Petts Wood, denied the charge, but was convicted by a jury before admitting to five counts of sexual activity with a child at Lewes Crown Court on Friday.

His sister, Carrie Hanspaul, 33, revealed that none of Forrest’s family had spoken to his wife, Emily, since he fled to France with the schoolgirl he intends to marry.

Speaking on ITV’s Daybreak on Tuesday morning, she said: “None of us has spoken to her since they left for Bordeaux. Divorce proceedings are going through, which she initiated.”

The trial of the former teacher at Bishop Justus School, in Magpie Lane, Bromley revealed he started a sexual relationship with a pupil at Bishop Bell School, in Eastbourne, before the pair ran away to France.

Forrest was arrested in September last year, but his sister maintains paedophile is the “wrong word” to describe her brother.

She added: “She was 15, not 11. Underage yes, but a paedophile is somebody who would usually target pre-pubescent girls.

“I think it’s wrong that is what he is being branded.”
