AN UNEMPLOYED man who assaulted a waiter in a Spanish tapas restaurant has been jailed for five-and-a-half years.

Russell Parkin (pictured), 37, of Madan Road, Westerham stabbed the 31-year-old waiter of La Rioja in West Wickham in the early evening last July after he had been refused alcohol because the restaurant was closed.

The victim was taken to Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough with a stab wound to his shoulder in a critical condition but recovered after surgery and was discharged the following day.

Parkin admitted wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm at Croydon Crown Court last Monday.
