HUNDREDS of residents visited an airport for a chance to have a behind the scene tour.
More than 400 visitors went to the Biggin Hill Airport open day last Friday and Saturday to join one of the nine tours given by staff.
They were given a brief ten minute presentation by Airport Managing Director Peter Lonergan, who spoke of the history of the airport and its colourful past, before going on a 40-minute tour of the airport's grounds and facilities.
Residents were shown some of the businesses based at Biggin Hill, including multinational aircraft maintenance companies to local flying schools.
They also had the chance to view some of the world's most advanced private jets as well as development plans for the proposed new hotel.
Biggin Hill Airport Managing Director Peter Lonergan, said: "Understandably, many local people have a keen interest in the airport and these behind the scenes 'Open Days' provide the perfect opportunity for people to come and see for themselves what goes on here at Biggin Hill.
"Biggin Hill employs more than 100 people, many of which are from the local area, and offers young people fantastic employment and training opportunities in many high skilled, highly paid jobs. We are currently working with Bromley College to provide more training and apprenticeship opportunities for local young people into what is a very exciting industry.
