A NEW chief executive has been appointed to manage a financially challenged hospital trust.

Dr Chris Streather, the latest in a string of interim chief executives at Bromley Hospitals NHS Trust (BHT), took up his post on Monday.

He also said he intends to apply for the top job if trust merger proposals, amalgamating BHT, Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup (QMS) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich (QEH) are approved.

Dr Streather is succeeding Mike Marchment, appointed in June this year on a temporary contract earning £1,300 per day. Meanwhile BHT is crippled by £107 million debt.

He has been medical director at St George's Hospital in Tooting since September 2004.
