A GALLANT pensioner who fought off a pair of carjackers said his attackers are cowards who lay in wait for victims.
A 70-year-old man, who wanted to remain anonymous, was driving along Barnfield Road, Park Langley, on February 5 when two thieves rammed in to the back of his black Ford Focus.
When he got out of the car, the passenger of the vehicle got into it but the plucky pensioner put up a fight.
He said: "I rushed back and physically dragged him out of my car. We had a bit of a scuffle and I ended up on the floor with a bloody nose and bruises.
"Half the population think I'm brave and half the population think I'm stupid. It didn't really cross my mind they might be armed.
"You hear of people getting murdered trying to stop thieves and I suppose that could have happened to me. But I know I did the right thing. As far as I'm concerned they can lock them up for good. They've got no respect for other people.
"They are cowards. They just lay in waiting for their next victim to come along but in the end they made a bit of a mess of it. They wouldn't have tried it with two people. I was shaken up afterwards but at the time I wasn't really thinking."
Police are now appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.
Detective Constable Suial Miah, of Bromley Police's robbery squad, said: "We are eager to trace these individuals before they make any further such attempts.
"Luckily the victim in this case had the presence of mind to remove his keys from the ignition before leaving his car, thus thwarting this robbery attempt."
The passenger was black and in his early to mid 20s, 6ft tall with an athletic build and wearing a grey hooded fleece top.
The driver was of eastern European appearance, aged approximately 30 with short black hair and bushy eyebrows.
Anyone with information should contact Bromley Police's robbery squad on 020 8284 9969 or crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
