Plans for the first cinema in Orpington in 30 years have been supported by Bromley Council as they aim to improve facilities in the town centre.

Having received the green light from the development control committee last week, the Walnuts Shopping Centre will now be developed to include a seven screen cinema.

Retail and restaurant units will also be included in the £10m project, as well as an improved public square.

Cllr Peter Morgan said: “This landmark development shows a positive step forward for Orpington town centre and expands on our vision to Build a Better Bromley.

“The scheme will not only bring 130 new jobs to the area but will also increase vital footfall, ensuring the vitality of the area and benefitting existing businesses and residents.”

The regeneration scheme is set to be completed by the end of 2013.
