THE man convicted of causing the death of Baby P could face new charges of torturing his 82-year-old grandmother.

Jason Owen, 37, formerly of Wittersham Road, Bromley, is serving six years for his part in abusing the tot but Kent Crown Prosecution Service is now investigating whether he can be charged for an alleged attack on Hilda Barker in 1995.

If the prosecution goes ahead, he is likely to be charged alongside his brother Stephen Barker, 33, who was convicted of causing Baby P's death but is also serving a life sentence for raping a two-year-old girl.

At the time of his death, Baby P had more than 50 injuries, including a broken back.

Mrs Barker alleged her grandsons locked her in a wardrobe while trying to get her to change her will, but the case was dropped in 1996 when she died. A Kent police spokesperson said a file had been reopened and investigations had begun.
