Get ready for even more Southern Rail strikes - this time over CHRISTMAS

RMT is striking over changes to the number of workers on trains

Commuters will face yet more strike action on Southern Rail, this time over the busy Christmas period.

The union has been in bitter talks with the rail firm, over the ‘company’s continued refusal to give a guarantee that a second, safety-critical member of staff will be retained on all services which currently have a guard on board.”

Southern have previously made an offer to the union, which included having a second, safety-trained, person rostered to work on each train.

Strikes are set to go ahead between Thursday December 22 to Christmas Eve, and again from New Years Eve to January 2.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “In the light of the continuing public anger at the absolute state of the Southern Rail operation it is disgraceful that neither the company or the Government are prepared to engage.

“We call on them to get round the negotiating table rather than jamming their heads in the sand.”
