Locals celebrated Andy Murray’s win in Bromley High Street on Sunday

Tennis lovers and shoppers joined together last week when Bromley’s Market Square was turned into ‘Bromley Hill’ during Wimbledon.

A large screen was put up in the town to show the latest tennis match-ups during the grand slam.

Your Bromley Business Improvement District came up with the idea, and decorated the area with deck chairs and a green floor as crowds watched Andy Murray win his second Wimbledon title.

Locals could even buy stalwarts of the event including Pimms and lemonade and strawberries and cream.

Councillor Peter Morgan said: “Visitors to Bromley town centre have been served up a treat.

“There is a lot happening within the town centre, with new businesses locating in the town and if you haven’t visited Bromley recently, now’s the time.”

Your Bromley BID events and marketing coordinator Thomas Zane-Black said: “Bromley Hill gave visitors the opportunity to spend longer in the town instead of rushing home to watch their favourite player.”

BID manager Frances Forrest said: “We’re delighted that Wimbledon on the Big Screen went down so well with Bromley shoppers.

“It was Your Bromley’s first event, all of which are designed to increase footfall to Bromley town centre.

“We have plenty more events and promotions ahead, so look out for these.”
