The Chislehurst Society has received almost £7,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a community project focused on restoring the 1893 sale document of Camden Park Estate.

Their project also aims to promote the legacy of William Willett, pioneer of daylight saving time and great grandfather of Coldplay’s Chris Martin, who purchased the estate.

The document was offered to the society by David Miller, a 70-year-old man who has Chislehurst roots himself - sheltering in the caves during The Blitz in World War Two.

It is hoped the restored document will form the centre piece of a commemorative event in 2015 celebrating the legacy of William Willett.

Joanna Friel, project leader, said “We are genuinely thrilled to have received this support. The great grandson of William is Chris Martin of Coldplay, so we shall certainly be playing his song ‘Clocks’ at the end of the project.”
