Sunday May 13 is National Croquet Day, and the Hayes, Bromley and Keston Croquet Club will be offering basic tuition on the day.

Chariman of the club, Tony Besgrove, said: “Croquet is a lovely way to spend a sunny afternoon.

“It is easy for a beginner to pick up the basic rules and start playing - but it is also a game that becomes more intriguing as advanced strategy is brought into play.

“It’s a most sociable sport and a great way to make new friends.”

All that is required is for the player to wear flat soled shoes and be able to lift a wooden mallet.

Tony added: “If you are interested in learning more about the sport, please feel free to come along and find out how much fun it can be.”

There event is free, and will take place at Old Dunstonians Sports Club, St. Dunstan’s Lane, Beckenham between 3pm and 5pm.
