Local eyecare experts are looking out for kids in the borough by championing road safety.

Children visiting Specsavers stores in Beckenham, Bromley, Orpington, Penge and West Wickham will each be gifted a high visibility vest to take home.

Bamini Raj, store director at Specsavers in West Wickham, said: “Now that the nights are drawing in, we want to make sure that our young people are travelling to and from school and after-school clubs in safety.

“A simple high visibility vest increases the likelihood of them being spotted by motorists and cyclists in poor lighting conditions.’

“Why not pop into your nearest store and get your little ones kitted out for winter.”

The initiative aims to raise awareness of road safety in collaboration with Brake, a national road safety charity which exists to prevent deaths and injury on roads, through campaigns and other funding. The charity also promotes safe and sustainable road use, and effective road safety policies.
