Footballer to stand trial

A NON-LEAGUE footballer appeared at the Old Bailey last Friday accused of attempting to murder a teenager found unconscious in a flat.

A NON-LEAGUE footballer appeared at the Old Bailey last Friday accused of attempting to murder a teenager found unconscious in a flat.

One-time professional Mario Celaire, 30, who now plays for Maidstone United in the Kent League, allegedly attacked 19-year-old Kara Hoyte.

She was found at a flat in Green Pond Close, Walthamstow on February 11 last year.

Miss Hoyte continues to make a recovery but suffers from the language disorder aphasia, caused by brain injuries.

Celaire, a defender who changed his name to McNish by deed poll in 2006, appeared via videolink from Belmarsh prison.

He spoke only to confirm his name during a brief preliminary hearing. No pleas were entered

Builder Celaire will stand trial on January 5 next year.

A plea hearing will be held on May 1 and Celaire, of Sydenham Road, Sydenham is remanded in custody until then.
