Five acres of woodland to go on sale in Orpington

Over five acres of woodland in Orpington is to go on sale for a guide price of £45,000.

Estate agents John Clegg said it was unusual to find such a plot of land so close to London.

Lennard Wood in Crofton Heath originally formed part of the Bromley and Beckenham Hospital site which opened in 1885 and closed in 1984.

In 1907, further down the lane from the hospital and deep in the woods of Crofton Heath a smallpox hospital was built but it was rarely used and closed in 1956.

The seven-building site was enclosed within a substantial brick wall. It is now being sold as Lennard Wood and still has remains of the buildings and the boundary wall.

The land goes on sale on October 26. Full details can be found on the agent’s website
