Firefighters rescued 12 people from a blaze at a block of flats in St Mary Cray yesterday.

The fire at the four-storey building, in Rookery Lane, is thought to have started on the roof shortly before 6pm and was under control by 7.40pm.

A total of 35 firefighters tackled the flames equipped with six fire engines from Sidcup, Orpington, Bromley and Eltham fire stations. No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by London Fire Brigade’s fire investigation unit and the Met Police.
