Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a fire at a block of flats in Fair Acres, Hayes, yesterday afternoon.

Part of a flat on the fifth floor of the building was damaged and one woman and a child left before the arrival of the brigade, and were treated at the scene by London Ambulance Service.

One woman from an adjacent flat was also treated at the scene.

The brigade was called at 4.56pm and the fire was under control by 6:31pm.

Fire crews from Bromley, Beckenham and Addington fire stations attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is believed to be due to the involvement of smoking material, such as cigarettes or matches.
