WORK is being carried out on a block of flats after the roof fell off narrowly missing passers-by.

Police were called to Melbourne Court in Anerley Road, Crystal Palace, in the early hours of February 25 to reports that "a roof has fallen off the house and landed on a car".

One of the two 3ft overhanging flat roofs at the front of the 1930s building had fallen onto a resident's Vauxhall Astra damaging its roof, windscreen, bonnet and headlights but nobody was hurt.

The area was taped off and the letting agents of the property, AS Estates, contractors and the borough surveyor started reparation work at 10.20am.

There were no road closures.

The Times approached AS Estates' maintenance manager, Mr M Fisher, but no comment was made.
