Driver arrested after allegedly trying to flee scene of Orpington accident

A driver has been arrested after allegedly trying to flee the scene of an Orpington crash which saw a boy taken to hospital last night (July 17).

Police and the London Ambulance Service were called to Cuckmere Way just after 6pm.

A Black Saab had been in a collision with a seven-year-old boy, who was taken to Kings College Hospital by with head and pelvic injuries.

It was initially thought his injuries were life-changing but that is no longer thought to be the case.

The driver attempted to flee the scene but was detained by officers from a police unit in the area at the time.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without insurance, taking and driving a vehicle without the owners’ permission and driving other than in accordance with a licence. He remains in custody.
