Forty men and one woman arrested on suspicion of a range of offences

Dozens of people have been arrested in dawn raids this morning in the culmination of a two-year police operation to break up criminal gangs.

Some 41 people have been arrested in Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham on suspicion of a range of offences, including conspiracy to burgle, supplying Class A drugs, conspiracy to supply firearms, handling stolen goods and fraud.

The 40 men and a woman remain in custody at police stations in central and south east London, and police expect to arrest more people during the day.

The criminal networks are suspected of committing hundreds of offences, including burglary, theft, fraud, car crime, drug dealing, money laundering and violent crime.
