The general election is just over a month away

The council has reminded people to register to vote or else risk a fine.

Residents have until May 22 to sign up or they will not be eligible to vote in the general election on June 8.

A spokesperson from the council said: “Not only does registering to vote mean residents can have their say in this and other elections, it is also a legal requirement and anyone who fails to register can face a fine.”

The fine would come from the Electoral Registration Office, only if you have been asked to register and you have not done so.
