A YOUNG woman has become the sixth member of the same family to achieve the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Melissa Coates, from St Mary Cray, received the award from the scheme's founder, HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, at a ceremony at St James's Palace on March 16, days before her 25th birthday. Remarkably, Ms Coates's mother, aunt, two uncles and a cousin have also gained the award, which requires participants to complete a number of tasks, such as volunteering and expeditions, over a period of at least 18 months.

Ms Coates, who works
