Doctor faces drug charges

A DOCTOR has appeared in court charged with illegally obtaining prescription drugs.

Mr Arif Alam, 41, who worked as a locum doctor in Orpington between August 2006 and 2007, appeared at Bromley Magistrates Court on Tuesday (10).

He is accused of one count of obtaining property by deception and 23 counts of fraud by false representation, by getting prescription drugs.

Alam, of Westway Court, Elizabeth Place, St Helier, Jersey, was arrested last Wednesday (4) in St Helier in a joint operation between Bromley police, Jersey police and the Met police.

He is believed to have been working at a hospital in Jersey at the time of his arrest.

He was bailed until he next appears at Bromley Magistrates Court on April 3.
