OLYMPIC diver Blake Aldridge has appeared in court, where he pleaded not guilty to punching a supermarket security guard.

The 27-year-old from Shirley Road, Beckenham, appeared before Bromley magistrates last Wednesday accused of the assault at the Tesco store in Elmers End on February 19.

He is due to stand trial before Bromley magistrates on August 18. A further charge of shoplifting was dropped.

Aldridge, who lives in Bromley, partnered diving prodigy Tom Daley, just 14 at the time, in the synchronised diving event at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. There was controversy when he blamed his younger team-mate for a disappointing performance, accusing him of being too nervous even though it later emerged that he had taken a phone call during their Olympic attempt.
