Orpington kicked off its seasonal festivities last week with a Christmas Extravaganza event on Thursday.

An extended road closure was in force to make space for a range of free activities, including face painting, lantern making, pony cart rides, balloon modelling, a stage with a live entertainment line-up, Santa in his grotto and a lantern parade.

Orpington’s own record breaking sprinter Dina Asher-Smith led the count down to the fireworks, which were enjoyed by all.

Mayor of Bromley Kim Botting said: “My consort and I were delighted to be asked to attend the Orpington Christmas lights, fireworks and festivities.

“It was great to see and be in company with Dina Asher-Smith our local famous top athlete.”

The fun filled event was hosted by Orpington 1st, Bromley’s first Business Improvement District, which is funded by the businesses in Orpington town centre.
