Dave Davies from Bickley to run the London Marathon for Cancer Research
PUBLISHED: 08:00 22 April 2018
Bickley resident Dave Davies will be running in the marathon as a tribute to his friend Chris Aked, who died of cancer at 33.
Dave has done a lot of running before, but he will never have had such inspiration to reach the finish line before.
He will be running for Bowel & Cancer Research in memory of Chris, who died last year, after just becoming a father.
Dave, 37, said: “He was diagnosed in April 2017 with stage four cancer and just five months later he was no longer there.”
“I started running in 2011 because I was bored - one day I just put on an old pair of trainers and off I went.
“Then came the Olympics in 2012 which were such an inspiration - I entered my first half-marathon.
“In 2015 I did the London Marathon for the first time and finished in three hours 32 minutes.”
